  • Das Black Album stellt das erfolgreichste Album der Band Geschichte dar. Allein in den USA hat sich die Scheibe über 16 Millionen mal verkauft und steht damit auf Platz 1 der meistverkauften Alben seit Einführung der "Soundscan-Era", sprich seitdem die Plattenverkäufe genau ermittelt werden können.

  • Aufgrund des schwarzen Covers wird das Album in Fankreisen und von der Band selbst als das "Black Album" bezeichnet. Der offizielle Titel ist jedoch "Metallica".

  • Die Pre-Listening Party des Albums fand im Madison Square Garden statt und wurde für Jederman geöffnet und war nicht wie üblich Journalisten und Offiziellen aus der Musikindustrie vorenthalten

  • Das Album konnte den Grammy für das beste Metal Albums des Jahres gewinnen. Bei der Zeremonie haben Metallica Enter Sandman gespielt.
