rockdetector.com hat vor kurzem ein brandneues interview mit megadeth-frontmann dave mustaine veröffentlicht.
hier ein paar auszüge daraus:
Rockdetector.com: Es ist wirklich aufregend zu hören, dass ein neues Megadeth Album unterwegs ist. Wie weit seid ihr mit dem Album?
Dave: Wir arbeiten noch an der Entwicklung der Songs. Wir beginnen erst in der Mitte des Monats mit den Arbeiten. Wir gehen ins Studio am 19. April.

Bis jetzt hab' (hauptsächlich) ich. Ich meine es gibt einen Song von den Drovers den ich mir anschaue. Bis jetzt wurden 11 von diesen Songs of dem Album gestartet und einer von diesen hat was von ihnen. Ich habe auch James Lomenzo gesagt, dass er, wenn er wolle, was während dem Songwritingprozess beitragen könne, und dass ich kein Problem damit hätte. Wir werden sehr interessante Sachen am Laufen haben, mit den Jungs, da sie alle sehr gut spielen können.
Wie hast du James Lomenzo das erste Mal getroffen?
Weißt du was? Er wurde mir von dem Typen bei ESP vorgeschlagen, der sich um die Beziehungen zwischen den Künstlern kümmert; er heißt Allen Steelgrave. Als Megadeth sich entschlossen hatte rauszugehen und zu spieln nachdem das Album geschrieben worden war -- weißt du ich hatte keine Intention daraus was Dauerhaftes zu machen -- aber als die dDinge ihren Lauf nahmen und sie immer besser und besser wurden, beschloss ich es etwas Dauerhaftes zu machen. Ich schaute mir die Positionen an die ich in der Band gehabt hatte und was ich machen wollte, und genau dann entschied ich mich einen neuen Bassisten zu holen, und dass ich mit Glen Drover arbeiten wollte und dass ich sehen wollte wo Shawn Drover mit seinem Zeugs unterwegs war, da er keine großen Erfahrung besaß; vor Megadeth. Mit ihm zu reden war wirklich aufregend, da er viel über Musik und Metal im Allgemeinen weiß. Da rein zu gehen mit den beiden Brüdern ist sehr aufregend für sie, weil sie zu sehen beginnen, wie die Songs entstehen die sie sich angehört haben und die ihnen auch sehr gefallen haben.
David Ellefson and yourself were in Megadeth since the very beginning. Do you miss having him in the band even though things went bad in the end?
Well, you know what? I have talked to him since the break-up. And of course remember he sued me. And I tried talking to him after that to see if there was anything left there and it was just too foreign. You know, I had said something to him about doing something with Megadeth and although as preposterous as that seems after having somebody drag your name through the mud in a public arena where literally millions around the entire globe saw all this stuff, it was really hard for me to go back to him and say, 'Hey you know what? Do you want a second chance?' But, um... that's not really what happened. I just kind of wanted to extend an olive branch and just say, 'You know what? No hard feelings, you spent a lot of money to try and sue me and you lost, and I'm sorry for that'.
What was James MacDonough's reason for leaving the band?
Um, no reason. He just had come in to help me on a basis where we wanted to tour and the whole thing, like I said in the beginning, I didn't know how long it was going to last. So none of this was permanent, it was just temporary. The Drover's were still in another band [Eidolon] at the time
When you take a look over Megadeth's extensive back catalogue of records and all the years of touring, how proud are you of all that you've achieved with the band?
It's better than doing time! [laughs]. I'm really, really proud of what's happened. I think some of the things that matter the most -- you're probably going to think this is an answer specifically created just for you but it's not. But it does have something to do with Australia and New Zealand. The thing that really feels good is in circumstances like a territory like Australia and New Zealand. We had played there and something happened after the first time we played there. We were going back a second time and we had some guys in the band that were junkies and they ran out of heroin in Japan and didn't want to go to Australia or New Zealand. The tour guy cancelled and consequently we lost face with the promoter there and the promoter kind of pinned it on us and made us lose face with the fans. And you know, after the last time that we went down there it doesn't seem that there's any more hard feelings. I thought that the audience in Australia and New Zealand was absolutely over the top and to see all the participation with the Aussies at our website... you know it's like we've got our own website worth of traffic just from people from your countries.
And they're keen to see Megadeth back again that's for sure. The last time you came here you made a promise at the end of the show I went to in Auckland. You promised that Megadeth would be back again. Is that going to happen?
Yeah, it's absolutely going to happen. It'll happen within the next year. We've already started talking about 'Gigantour' coming down there. It just needs to be the right thing. We want to stick to our promoter down there because we had a fabulous time the last time we travelled down there. And we'd really like to make 'Gigantour' be a part of Australia and New Zealand and their music scene, going forward... just bring down some really great bands from around the world and work in collaboration with the entertainment society down there with what the fans dig from out of the country. And just make it a really wonderful thing for us and our Australian and New Zealand friends to develop our relationship.

So far I have. I mean, there's one song that has some stuff from the Drover's that I'm looking at. So far 11 of those songs on the record have been started and one of those has something from them. But I also had told James Lomenzo that if he wanted to submit some stuff during the song writing process that you know, I'm cool with that. So we're going to have some really interesting stuff going on with these guys because they're all really good players.

How did you first meet up with James Lomenzo?

You know what? He was recommended to me by the person at ESP guitars that handles all of the relations with the artists there, a guy named Allen Steelgrave. When Megadeth had decided to go out and play after the record was written -– you know, I had no intention of making this a permanent thing -– but as things continued to progress and they got better and better, I decided that I would make it a permanent thing. I looked at the positions that I'd had in the band and what I wanted to do going forward and that's when I decided that I wanted to get a different bass player and that I wanted to work with Glen Drover and that I needed to see where Shawn Drover was with all of his stuff because he hadn't had a lot of experience prior to being in Megadeth. Talking to him was really exciting because he knows so much about music and metal in general. And to be able to go in there with him and his brother and to make the songs now is really exciting for them because they're starting to see the processes of creating the songs that they've been listening to and enjoying for so long.
